I've got a question for you today. Do you know yourself? Do you know yourself? Most people are like, “oh yeah, I know myself because after all, Ed, I spend more time with myself than anyone else.”
I would argue that the majority of us don't now ourselves like we think we know ourselves. That's why I'm doing this series called “Know Thyself”. Socrates said it. “Man,” he said, “know thyself.”

INTRO: You know, this morning I got some very distressing news, some horrible news. My mother passed away at 3:15 AM this morning. She'd been battling an illness for several years, and she was one of the great Christians I've ever known in my entire life. We were able to say our goodbyes to her, and I was able to FaceTime with her last night and tell her that I loved her and I knew that she was going to go to heaven. Be in prayer for our family. My brothers and I are going to do the funeral in Houston Thursday, which is not going to be an easy thing. However, as I was thinking about my mother's life this morning, I know that she would have wanted me to speak. She had told me to get up to the church and preach because she loved the church. My mother definitely was one of the most self-aware people that I've ever had the privilege of knowing.

INTRO: You're in the throes of making a major decision. Maybe a vocation decision, a relational decision, a recreational decision, a marital decision, a parental decision. You're in the throes of making a decision.
We're all the middle, in the midst of making choices, are we not? Life is a net effect of choices. We all make decisions. Whether you find yourself here or at one of our many locations, you're making decisions. Some decisions are those micro decisions, small decisions; they seem rather insignificant. On the other hand, some we would call our macro decisions. Big, hairy, honking decisions. Yeah, we're the net effect of decisions.

Thank you, guys, for being here. Cowboys kickoff at noon and you're at church? Give yourselves a round of applause. Wow. Absolutely amazing. The Dallas Cowboys. You know, I've never seen a place like Texas. We love our football, do we not? Also in Florida. You know, this is the scene right now in Florida. And our church is there. Football is absolutely massive. Well, I do want to welcome everyone here today. Thank you guys for being here.
I also want to welcome everyone online. We have a large online audience. We have church online. Now, if you can make it, if you're physically able to make it to church, show up. Don't use that as an excuse to go, “You know what? I'm going to go to Bedside Baptist and just watch the church online.” But if you can't make it, it's great. But it's really really good to have everyone here.
Have you ever asked the question, “Who am I?” The biggest questions in life are rooted in identity. Some people discover the answers easily and live out their purpose and plan, others find themselves on a difficult journey of self-discovery. Who we are has been clearly defined by the God who created us. In this sermon series, Pastor Ed Young takes us on a journey of self awareness. We discover that our identity isn’t something that needs to remain a question, because when we turn to God and the Bible we find a clear and compelling way to know thyself.
